Hulu Health Charm

The Hu Lu has been a charm for health and protection in Chinese homes for centuries.

Shaped like the calabash gourd, once dried and used to store medicine, the Hu Lu came to stand for wellbeing and a long life. Its narrow waist and rounded halves are read as the meeting of heaven and earth, a balanced shape. Taoist practice has long used it to gather up the heavy, unsettled energy in a room and hold it away from the people there.

It is most often hung beside a sickbed, in a car, or in a room that needs settling.
