Cinnabar is the fire-red stone of the Chinese tradition, long worn to guard vitality and keep good fortune close. Its colour alone was considered protective, the red that meets whatever the day brings.
The Monkey stands for ingenuity and play, the clever mind that solves what others cannot. It is the guardian sign of those born in 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016 and 2028.
On the back sits Vairocana (大日如来), the guardian Buddha of the Monkey among the eight zodiac protectors, the Buddha of all-illuminating light.
